Twelve Stones

How to play

A Bible card game for four or five at one table, learned in two minutes. Every stone you lay is a story you remember.

Sit down at one table

Everyone sits at the same table, each with JustAllowGod open on a phone, a tablet or the website.

  1. Choose a gamer tag. Before your first table you choose a gamer tag of 3 to 20 letters, numbers, underscores or hyphens. Other players see only your tag, never your name. You can change it once every 30 days.
  2. Play now. Tap Play now to sit at the next public table, or open one. It starts after 60 seconds or when every seat is taken, and JagAI fills the seats nobody took.
  3. Start a table. For family and friends, one person taps Start a private table and picks four or five seats. They get a four letter code and a QR code.
  4. Join a table. Everyone else taps Join a table and types the code, or scans the QR code with a phone camera to join on the website. The same code works from another town too.
  5. Fill the seats. Seats nobody takes are filled with JagAI helpers, so two people can still play a full table.
  6. Start the game. The host taps Start the game. Everyone gets 5 cards, and the rest go into the Well.

Your hand

Every card belongs to a Bible story, and every story has four cards: a Person, a Place, a Moment and the Word, its key verse. The four small pips show which of the four you hold, and "Story 7 of 20" shows where the story sits in the deck.

Each card type has its own icon and name as well as its color, so nobody has to tell cards apart by color alone.

The card back: the Hidden Cross mark in gold on Night inside a double gold border, with JustAllowGod and justallowgod.com.
Every card back is the same, so nobody can tell cards apart from behind.

Your turn: Ask, Seek, Knock

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

  1. Ask. Pick a story you hold at least one card from and ask one player for it. If they have any, they hand you every card of that story, and you ask again.
  2. Seek. When the answer is no, go to the Well and draw one card. If it is from the story you asked for, you show it and keep going.
  3. Knock. Any time on your turn, lay three or four cards of one story. That is a stone.

Every ask is seen by the whole table. That is where the fun comes from: you learn what everyone is collecting.

Lay a stone

A stone of three cards is worth 2 points. A sealed stone, all four cards with the Word, is worth 4. If you laid three, adding the missing card later is 2 more.

A laid stone with the story emblem carved into it.

A sealed stone with a gold rim.
A sealed stone

Each stone fills the next place in the circle of twelve, like the stones Israel set up at Gilgal so their children would ask what they meant.

That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?

After every stone, the whole table sees its verse, with Read the verse and Read the chapter to open it in the Bible.

Remember the Word

When you lay a Word card, its verse appears with one word missing and three words to choose from. The right word is 1 more point. A wrong one costs nothing; it just shows the verse.

The host can turn Remember the Word off for little ones when starting the table.

JagAI, the Helper

The JagAI Helper seat: a rounded square with the Helper mark and the gifts it has given.
The JagAI Helper seat shows gifts given, never points.

Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

  • JagAI fills empty seats to help the people at the table. It can never win.
  • On its turn it draws one card from the Well and gives a card to the person with the fewest points, and the table sees why.
  • It gives a card from a story that person asked for out loud, or the missing card of a stone they laid.
  • It sees only its own cards and what the whole table sees, never anyone's hand, and when you ask it for a story it hands over every card it holds.

The end of the game

The game ends when twelve stones are laid, or when the Well is empty and no more stones can be made. Most points wins, and a tie is a shared win.

His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
