Twelve Stones

Rules

The full rules, exactly as the game checks every move.

The deck

A deck is made of Bible stories, and every story has four cards: Person, Place, Moment and Word. The Word card carries the story's key verse from the King James Version.

  • Only stories our team has approved, with all four cards approved, are dealt.
  • A deck can be dealt once it has at least 8 such stories.

Setup

  • A table has four or five seats and at least one person. JagAI helpers fill the seats nobody takes.
  • Signed-in members join by the table's four letter code or its QR code. There is no matching with strangers.
  • People sit in the order they join, and JagAI sits after them. The host is seat 1 and plays first.
  • Every seat, JagAI included, is dealt 5 cards. The rest of the deck is the Well.

A turn

  1. Ask. Ask one other seat for a story you hold at least one card from. They hand over every card of that story they hold, and you may ask again.
  2. Seek. When they have none, draw one card from the Well. A card from the story you just asked for lets you keep going. Any other card ends your turn.
  3. Knock. Any time on your turn, even before you go to the Well, lay all the cards you hold of one story when you hold three or four. That is a stone.
  4. Seal. If you laid a stone of three and later hold its missing card, add it to your stone on your turn.
  • If the card you draw from the Well lets you lay or seal a stone, you may do that before you tap Done.
  • If your hand runs out, you draw one card from the Well and play on. With the Well empty, your turn passes.
  • When you ask and the Well is empty, a no ends your turn, after any stone you can still lay.

Scoring

  • A stone of three cards: 2 points.
  • A sealed stone of all four cards: 4 points.
  • Adding the missing card to your own stone later: 2 more points.
  • Remember the Word, the right word: 1 more point. A wrong word costs nothing.

Remember the Word comes up whenever you lay a Word card, in a stone or as the card that seals one. It shows the verse with one word missing and three words to choose from. The host can turn it off when starting the table.

The end

  • The game ends when 12 stones are laid.
  • It also ends when the Well is empty and nobody can make another stone: no person holds a card of a story nobody has laid, and nobody can seal their own stone.
  • Most points wins. A tie is a shared win.
  • The host can end a game early. Nobody wins a game that was ended.

Teams

  • Teams is four people in two teams of two, and no JagAI.
  • Partners sit across the table: seats 1 and 3, and seats 2 and 4, in the order people join.
  • Partners share their points, and the team with more points wins.
  • Partners do not ask each other. Instead, once on each of your turns, you may pass one card face down to your partner.

The JagAI seat

These rules are kept by the game's code on our server, not by instructions to JagAI, so they cannot be argued with or forgotten.

  • A JagAI seat has no score. It never asks, never lays a stone, is never ranked and never wins.
  • It sees only its own cards and what the whole table sees: the points, the gifts, the asks spoken out loud and the stones.
  • On its turn it draws one card from the Well, then gives one card. When it holds more than 6 cards, it gives two.
  • The gift goes to the person with the fewest points. A tie goes to whoever has had fewer gifts this game, then to the next seat after JagAI.
  • It gives a card from a story that person asked for out loud, the most recent first, skipping a story someone else has already laid. If it has none, it gives the missing card of a stone that person laid. If it has neither, it keeps the gift for its next turn.
  • When someone asks JagAI for a story, it hands over every card it holds from that story, like anyone.
  • Every gift is shown to the table with the reason.

At the table

There is no typed chat. Players tap quick reactions: Amen!, Well played, Thank you and Your turn. The game is free for every signed-in member.

Public and private tables

  • Play now seats you at the public table that starts soonest, or opens a new one. Open tables are listed on the start screen with their host's gamer tag and the time left.
  • A public table counts down 60 seconds. When it reaches zero, or the host taps Start now, or every seat is taken, JagAI fills the empty seats and the game begins.
  • On a public table each person has 60 seconds to move. Run out of time and the turn passes; miss two turns in a row, or leave, and JagAI plays your seat as a Helper for the rest of the game, with no points.
  • A private table is for family and friends. It is never listed, Play now never sends anyone to it, and it has no turn timer. People join with its code or QR code. Teams are played at private tables.
  • When a game ends, Play again opens a new table for the same people.

Fair play

  • Players see only gamer tags, never names.
  • The only computer players are JagAI and agents our team approves, such as a Claude helper. An approved agent shows an Agent badge and follows the JagAI seat rules above: it never scores or wins, and it gives only to a person with the fewest points.
  • Every game is kept, so you can replay your own. Our team reviews games where play does not look like a person at the table, such as moves faster than anyone can tap or two accounts playing from one device. A person on our team decides; nothing is banned automatically.

An example turn

  1. Player 1 asks. Player 1 holds David and The valley of Elah, and asks Player 2 for David and Goliath. Player 2 hands over Five smooth stones and a sling. Player 1 now holds three cards of the story and asks again.
  2. A no, and the Well. Player 1 asks Player 3 for David and Goliath. Player 3 has none, so Player 1 goes to the Well and draws 1 Samuel 17:45, the Word card of the story they just asked for. They show it and keep going.
  3. A sealed stone. Holding all four cards, Player 1 knocks and lays a sealed stone: 4 points, and the next place in the circle fills.
  4. Remember the Word. The verse appears with one word missing. Player 1 picks the right word for 1 more point, and the whole table sees the verse with Read the verse and Read the chapter.
  5. JagAI's turn. JagAI draws one card from the Well and gives Player 3, who has the fewest points, a card from Jonah, because Player 3 asked for Jonah out loud.
