What Happened

After Saul's death, David was anointed king over Judah and later all Israel. He conquered Jerusalem, making it his capital, and brought the Ark of the Covenant there. God made an eternal covenant with David.

Biblical Significance

The Davidic covenant is one of the most important in Scripture. God promised David an eternal throne, fulfilled ultimately in Jesus Christ, the "Son of David," whose kingdom will never end.
