c. 966-959 BC

United Kingdom Old Testament

What Happened

Solomon, David's son, built the First Temple in Jerusalem over seven years. At its dedication, the glory of God filled the temple as a cloud. Solomon prayed that God would hear all who prayed toward this house.

Biblical Significance

Solomon's Temple was the center of Israelite worship and God's dwelling among His people. Jesus identified His own body as the true temple, and believers are now called temples of the Holy Spirit.
