Divided Kingdom Old Testament

What Happened

After Solomon's death, his son Rehoboam refused the people's plea for lighter burdens. Ten northern tribes seceded under Jeroboam, forming the kingdom of Israel. Judah and Benjamin remained under the Davidic line.

Biblical Significance

The division of the kingdom was God's judgment for Solomon's idolatry. It set the stage for centuries of conflict and eventual exile, while the Davidic line continued in Judah, preserving the messianic promise.
