c. 740-681 BC

Divided Kingdom Old Testament

What Happened

Isaiah prophesied during the reigns of four kings of Judah. He received his commission in a throne-room vision of God's holiness. His prophecies contain the most detailed messianic predictions in the Old Testament, including the Suffering Servant passages.

Biblical Significance

Isaiah is called the "prince of prophets" and the "fifth evangelist." His Suffering Servant prophecy in chapter 53 is the most detailed prediction of Christ's atoning death in all the Old Testament.
