c. 2006 BC

Patriarchs Old Testament

What Happened

Isaac's twin sons, Esau and Jacob, struggled even in the womb. Esau sold his birthright for a bowl of stew, and Jacob later deceived Isaac to receive the firstborn's blessing. Despite Jacob's deception, God chose him to carry the covenant promise.

Biblical Significance

This story illustrates God's sovereign election and grace. Despite Jacob's flawed character, God chose him to become Israel, the father of the twelve tribes, demonstrating that God's purposes depend on His calling, not human merit.
