Jesus' Baptism

c. AD 26

Life of Christ New Testament

What Happened

Jesus came from Galilee to be baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan River. As He came up from the water, heaven opened, the Spirit descended on Him like a dove, and the Father's voice declared, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

Biblical Significance

Jesus' baptism marks the beginning of His public ministry. All three persons of the Trinity are present: the Son being baptized, the Spirit descending, and the Father speaking. It inaugurates the new covenant era.
