After His baptism, the Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness where He fasted forty days and was tempted by Satan. Jesus resisted every temptation by quoting Scripture, succeeding where Israel and Adam had failed.
Jesus' victory over temptation proved His qualification as the sinless Savior. Where Adam fell in a garden of plenty and Israel failed in the wilderness, Jesus conquered in a wilderness of deprivation, using only the Word of God.
