c. 1446 BC
Three months after the Exodus, Israel arrived at Mount Sinai. God descended on the mountain in fire and smoke, and spoke the Ten Commandments directly to the people. Moses received the full Law on stone tablets during forty days on the mountain.
The Law reveals God's holy character and moral expectations. It served as a covenant framework for Israel and as a tutor leading to Christ by exposing humanity's inability to achieve righteousness on its own.
