Morning — The Faithfulness of God at Daybreak

By Charles Spurgeon

Lamentations 3:22-23

Open in Bible Reader
"It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness."

How blessed it is to begin each morning with the assurance that God's mercies are freshly given! The prophet Jeremiah wrote these words in the midst of the most dreadful sorrow, yet even there he found reason to praise. If God's compassions are new every morning, then no matter how difficult yesterday was, today brings a fresh supply of grace.

Beloved, consider what this means for your soul. You did not earn yesterday's mercies, and you cannot exhaust today's. They flow from the inexhaustible fountain of God's own character — His faithfulness. He is not faithful because we deserve it; He is faithful because He cannot deny Himself. His promises rest upon His nature, and His nature is unchanging love.

As you rise this morning, let your first thought be of the God who has watched over you through the night. He has not slept. He has not forgotten you. His compassions are already waiting for you, fresh as the morning dew. Great is His faithfulness — let your heart echo this truth throughout the day.
