Ten days after the Ascension, the Holy Spirit descended on the gathered believers with the sound of rushing wind and tongues of fire. They spoke in various languages, and Peter preached to the crowd. About three thousand people were baptized that day.
Pentecost marks the birth of the Church and the fulfillment of Joel's prophecy about the outpouring of the Spirit. It reversed Babel's curse by uniting people of all languages in the Gospel. The age of the Spirit had begun.
