Evening — The Comfort of Finished Redemption

By Charles Spurgeon

"When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost."

Three words that echo through all eternity: "It is finished." Not "it is attempted," not "it is begun," but finished — complete, accomplished, done. The debt is paid, the law is satisfied, the curse is removed, and the way to the Father is opened wide. What glorious words for the close of day!

If your conscience troubles you tonight with reminders of today's failures, bring those failures to the cross where Christ declared His work complete. Your sins were laid upon Him — past, present, and future — and He bore them all. You cannot add to what Christ has finished, nor need you try. Your part is simply to believe and rest in what He has done.

Let these words be your pillow tonight: "It is finished." Every demand of the law has been met. Every debt has been discharged. Every sin has been atoned for. Sleep in peace, dear child of God, for your Savior has left nothing undone.
