Evening — Sheltered Beneath His Wings

By Charles Spurgeon

"He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler."

What a tender image the Psalmist gives us! As a mother bird gathers her chicks beneath her wings, sheltering them from the storm and the predator, so the Almighty God covers us with His own presence. Beneath those wings there is warmth, safety, and perfect peace — all the things the weary soul craves at the close of day.

Notice that it is His feathers that cover us — the softest, most gentle part of the bird. God does not shield us with cold iron alone; He shelters us with tenderness. His protection is not harsh but loving, not distant but intimate. He draws us close and enfolds us in His care.

As darkness falls tonight, whatever fears may circle like birds of prey — fears about tomorrow, anxieties about loved ones, worries about provision — remember that you are hidden beneath the wings of the Almighty. No enemy can reach you there. His truth is your shield, His presence is your refuge. Rest well, beloved. You are safe in His keeping.
