Evening — The Unchanging Love of God

By Charles Spurgeon

Romans 8:38-39

Open in Bible Reader
"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Paul does not say "I hope" or "I think" — he says "I am persuaded." This is settled conviction, unshakeable certainty, rooted not in feeling but in the character of God Himself. Nothing in all creation — not death nor life, not angels nor demons, not the present nor the future, not the highest heights nor the deepest depths — can separate you from God's love.

Consider the completeness of this list. Paul searches the entire created order — every dimension, every power, every circumstance — and declares that none of it can sever the bond of love between God and His child. If your worst day cannot separate you from His love, and your best day cannot make Him love you more, then His love is truly unconditional.

As you lay down tonight, let this persuasion become yours. Whatever happened today — whether you soared or stumbled, whether you felt close to God or a million miles away — His love for you has not changed one degree. It is fixed, immovable, eternal, and it is yours in Christ Jesus. Nothing can take it from you. Nothing. Sleep in that certainty tonight.
