Forty days after His resurrection, Jesus led His disciples to the Mount of Olives. After commissioning them to be His witnesses to the ends of the earth, He was taken up into heaven before their eyes. Two angels promised He would return in the same way.
The Ascension marked Jesus' exaltation to the right hand of the Father, where He reigns as King and intercedes for His people. It also initiated the period of waiting for the Holy Spirit and the ongoing mission of the Church.
