What Happened

Jesus was arrested, tried, and condemned to death by crucifixion. He was nailed to a cross at Golgotha between two criminals. Darkness covered the land for three hours. Jesus cried "It is finished!" and gave up His spirit. The temple veil was torn from top to bottom.

Biblical Significance

The crucifixion is the central event of the Christian faith. On the cross, Jesus bore the sins of the world, satisfying God's justice and making salvation possible for all who believe. The torn veil opened the way for all people to approach God directly.
